On Friday, PC Patrick Quinton, known as the ‘Taxi Cop’ for Avon and Somerset Police, confirmed ongoing checks were carried out on vehicles licensed by Bristol, South Gloucestershire, Somerset, Transport for London, Bath and North East Somerset, and Wolverhampton at Glastonbury.
One vehicle was suspended immediately after officers found a tyre worn down to the ply and cords. Five Non Compliance Notices were issued for issues mainly involving badges, plates and lights.
This follows action on Wednesday, where Quinton checked vehicles licensed by several authorities. That operation saw one driver arrested on suspicion of drug driving in a vehicle with an expired plate.
Officers also found two unlicensed drivers using licensed vehicles, issued five Non Compliance Notices, discovered one ‘ghost’ plate, and identified a driver with no badges.
Further checks are expected as part of wider work to ensure public safety at large events.
PC Quinton said: “Hello drivers, yesterday evening I checked vehicles licensed by Bristol, South Glos, Somerset, Transport for London, BANES and Wolverhampton at Glastonbury.
“As a result, 1 vehicle was immediately suspended as the tyre had worn to the ply/cords and 5 Non Compliance Notices were written mainly for badge, plate and lighting issues.”
