Black taxi app Gett has partnered with City Cabs Edinburgh in a move that will more than double its driver coverage in the Scottish capital.
The agreement adds around 700 City Cabs drivers to the Gett platform, increasing Gett’s UK-wide network to over 7,000 black cab drivers. The collaboration aims to improve taxi availability and booking reliability across Edinburgh, while also enhancing service levels for passengers.
City Cabs, which recently marked its 100th year, is a driver-owned cooperative and one of the city’s most established taxi operators. Gett has operated in Edinburgh since 2015, and this partnership now brings the two services together through shared dispatch software. The integration allows users of either platform to book taxis without disruption.
City Cabs vehicles are now available for bookings through the Gett app. Later this month, Gett’s network in London will become accessible via the City Cabs app. Drivers already active on Gett in Edinburgh have also been invited to continue working through the new arrangement with City Cabs.
Both companies say this model sets a foundation for wider collaboration across the UK, supporting the hackney carriage trade and improving access to licensed black cab services.
In addition to the partnership, Gett has rolled out a new WhatsApp support channel for drivers. The service complements its UK-based 24/7 support team, helping to reduce response times to driver queries.
Matteo De Renzi, Gett’s CEO, said: “We’re thrilled to be collaborating with such an established, heritage brand as City Cabs, knowing that our Gett customers who rely on us in London will continue to receive a high-quality taxi service when in Edinburgh.
“This reciprocal set-up opens the door for Gett in other major UK cities, where we are actively seeking to partner with driver networks who uphold our exceptional operating standards.”
Lewis Rae, Managing Director at City Cabs, said: “Gett users will benefit from our first-class service, with average pick-up times of under four minutes in the city. The partnership strengthens our service coverage for passengers and increases access for City Cabs users across Edinburgh and London.”
