Greater Manchester Police carried out a targeted taxi compliance operation at Manchester Airport, issuing defect notices and making multiple referrals to licensing authorities after inspecting more than 40 vehicles.
According to GMP’s traffic unit, officers issued traffic offence reports for issues including lighting and tyre defects. Six vehicles were flagged to local licensing teams for further action. The inspection formed part of ongoing work by the force’s Commercial Vehicle Unit, which regularly monitors high footfall locations where taxis and private hire vehicles operate at scale.
Manchester Airport remains one of the busiest pick up points in the region for both hackney and private hire fleets, with consistent pressure on driver compliance. Airport-based enforcement is considered a key tool for ensuring vehicles entering the estate meet roadworthiness and licensing conditions.
The force did not specify the licensing areas of the referred drivers or the exact nature of each defect.
More than 40 taxis were inspected, with six drivers referred to licensing teams following safety concerns.
A GMP Traffic spokesperson said: “Taxi checks at Manchester Airport. Over 40 vehicles checked, 6 referrals to licencing authorities, various traffic offence reports for lighting, tyres etc. CVU working to ensure your safety. No holidays were affected in the making of this post!”
