Greater Manchester Police Traffic have released dash cam footage of a private hire vehicle turning onto the wrong side of a road straight towards oncoming vehicles.

Using Twitter to highlight the dangerous driving, a spokesperson for the force said: 'This private hire driver opted for the wrong side of the road when turning right in @GMPAltrincham, driving directly towards oncoming traffic in front of traffic patrol #ME54. Front and rear fog lights also illuminated. Stopped and reported for due care and misuse of fog lights.'

The footage shows a vehicle with private hire markings on its door turning early into a right-turn filter lane for the opposite direction.

Luckily traffic enforcement officers were on hand to stop the driver and prevent a head-on collision.

It's not clear what reasoning was behind the maneuver, may it be through tiredness, GPS reliant or no knowledge of the roads they were operating in.

One thing is for sure, the driver of this private hire vehicle will now have to face whatever punishment is handed down because of the lucky intervention from the traffic cops.
