HGV driver handed driving ban after taking tea break on a live M6 motorway slip road
A heavy goods vehicle (HGV) driver was slapped with a driving ban and ‘substantial fine’ after choosing to take a tea break in a highly dangerous and inappropriate location on a live M6 slip road.
The Central Motorways Police Group (CMPG) brought the case to light, underscoring the risks associated with the irresponsible behaviour on one of the UK's busiest motorways.
According to the CMPG spokesperson, the driver of the HGV decided to take his break and have a cup of tea while parked in a live lane on the slip at Junction 7 of the M6 North.
The CMPG acted swiftly, dealing with the incident as a case of dangerous driving. This categorisation underlines the severity with which the authorities viewed the driver's actions.
The courts handed down a series of stringent penalties. The driver was disqualified from driving for a period of 12 months, reflecting the seriousness of the offence and its potential repercussions. In addition to the driving ban, the driver was also ordered to complete 200 hours of unpaid work and pay a ‘substantial fine’.
A Central Motorways Police Group (CMPG) spokesperson said via social media: “Driver of this HGV thought it was acceptable to take his break and have a cup of tea on a live lane on-slip at J7 of the M6 North!
“Dealt with for Dangerous Drive! Courts disqualified him from driving for 12 months, 200 hrs unpaid work and a substantial fine!”
