A licensed taxi was among 10 vehicles seized during a joint operation targeting untaxed and abandoned cars in Aylesbury.
The enforcement action, carried out by the Aylesbury Neighbourhood Policing Team and the DVLA, took place early in the morning and led to multiple recoveries from public roads. Among the vehicles pictured being lifted onto recovery trucks was a silver taxi, clearly marked with an “Untaxed Vehicle” notice on the windscreen.
Officers say the visible presence of enforcement teams caused a surge in road tax payments as drivers scrambled to avoid penalties.
A Thames Valley Police spokesperson said: “DVLA’s payment office was very busy this morning after they were swamped with people frantically buying road tax prompted by the sight of the fleet of DVLA recovery trucks and police.
“Untaxed and illegally dumped cars won’t be tolerated in or around Aylesbury. This morning we were out early with our colleagues from the DVLA seizing untaxed and dumped vehicles.
“A total of 10 cars were seized this morning.”
The incident highlighted the risk to motorist who fail to ensure their vehicle remains legally taxed. A lapse can lead to immediate seizure, with significant disruption to work and reputational damage for the local taxi industry.
