Google has introduced a new feature that allows users to have greater control over the news sources shown within its search engine, giving readers the option to prioritise publishers they trust, including TaxiPoint.

The feature, known as ‘Preferred Sources’, enables users to personalise their news experience by selecting publishers they want to see more frequently within Google Search and Top Stories results. The move gives readers more influence over the journalism surfaced during searches and breaking news events.

For TaxiPoint readers, the update provides a direct way to receive more trade-focused coverage from a publication dedicated to the UK taxi and private hire industry. Users who select TaxiPoint as a preferred source are more likely to see its reporting appear within relevant news panels and search results.

Google says the feature is designed to help users follow publications they trust while reducing reliance on algorithmically surfaced content from unfamiliar or less relevant outlets. The change comes amid ongoing concerns across the media sector around misinformation and content quality online.

Google users can now prioritise trusted publishers such as TaxiPoint in search results using the new Preferred Sources feature.

Making TaxiPoint a preferred source is designed to be a quick process. Readers need to be signed into their Google account before selecting TaxiPoint within the Preferred Sources options available through Google Search.

Once enabled, users can also refine their experience directly within Top Stories search results. After making a search query, readers can select the small icon positioned beside the Top Stories section and choose TaxiPoint as a preferred publication for future results.

For business users, operators and drivers working in the taxi and private hire sector, the feature could help surface more industry-specific reporting covering regulation, licensing, technology, insurance, enforcement and market developments relevant to the trade.

TaxiPoint has continued to expand its industry coverage across the UK, focusing on operational issues affecting drivers, operators and licensing authorities. The Preferred Sources feature offers another distribution route for publishers seeking stronger visibility within Google’s evolving news ecosystem.
