Liverpool City Council Licensing Enforcement Officers have suspended another licensed vehicle following a weekend compliance inspection in the city centre after identifying multiple breaches of licensing and road traffic requirements.
According to a post published by Liverpool City Council Licensing, the vehicle was found with no front plate, no rear plate, missing no-smoking sign and no door signs.
The authority added that all of these items are required by this licensing authority and said: “Compliance checks continue to keep passengers safe.”
The enforcement action appears to have taken place shortly after midnight on 12 July, with the accompanying image showing the vehicle in Liverpool city centre.
The photograph shows the car displaying only a rear registration plate, consistent with the authority’s statement that both the front and rear plates were missing at the time of the inspection, suggesting the rear plate may have been refitted after the stop or before the image was taken.
Licensed taxis and private hire vehicles are required to display specific identification issued by their licensing authority. Door signage and other identifiers enable passengers and enforcement officers to confirm a vehicle is correctly licensed, while no-smoking signs are a legal requirement in licensed vehicles. Registration plates are also a legal requirement under road traffic legislation.
The latest suspension continues Liverpool’s recent focus on compliance enforcement. The council has regularly publicised roadside checks and vehicle inspections as part of its efforts to ensure licensed vehicles meet the standards required to remain in service.
