Liverpool City Council licensing enforcement officers issued 47 penalty charge notices and moved on 73 vehicles during a weekend crackdown on the misuse of taxi ranks.
According to a post shared by Liverpool City Council Licensing, officers carried out a joint operation alongside parking services officers targeting unauthorised vehicles using designated taxi ranks across the city.
The enforcement activity focused on keeping taxi ranks clear for licensed hackney carriage drivers and improving public access to transport services, particularly at busy locations where illegal parking can disrupt passenger pick-ups and traffic flow.
Liverpool City Council Licensing said: “Last weekend, Licensing Enforcement Officers carried out a joint operation with Parking Services Officers targeting unauthorised vehicles using taxi ranks. A total of 47 PCNs were issued and 73 vehicles were moved on during the enforcement activity.”

Taxi trade representatives have long raised concerns about private motorists occupying ranks throughout the UK, arguing the issue affects driver earnings, passenger safety and accessibility, especially during peak evening periods and at transport hubs.
In some areas like Liverpool, local authorities have increased taxi and private hire enforcement activity in recent years as councils seek to improve compliance and maintain access to licensed transport infrastructure.
