Liverpool City Council Licensing enforcement officers stopped a private hire vehicle during checks carried out on Friday morning after noticing the rear licence plate was not being displayed.
In a statement shared on social media, Liverpool City Council Licensing said: “Enforcement Officers discovered this PHV operating without the required rear licence plate being displayed.”
The authority confirmed the vehicle was immediately suspended from operating and the driver will receive a formal warning. No further details were provided about the driver or whether additional enforcement action is being considered.
Private hire vehicles licensed in England are required to clearly display licence plates issued by the local authority. The plates help passengers, police and enforcement teams identify vehicles operating legally and are regarded as an important public safety measure within the taxi and private hire sector.
Liverpool licensing officers have suspended a private hire vehicle after it was found operating without the legally required rear licence plate on display.
Licensing teams across the UK conduct roadside compliance activity, with checks focusing on vehicle condition, insurance, licensing documentation and plate visibility. Drivers can face suspension or further sanctions where vehicles fail to meet licensing conditions.
