Taxi and private hire drivers working around Anfield Stadium have been put on notice over enforcement as road restrictions remain in place during redevelopment works.

Liverpool City Council Licensing issued separate guidance to hackney carriage and private hire drivers, reflecting different arrangements for the two sectors when dropping off and collecting passengers around the stadium.

Hackney carriage drivers have been directed to use the temporary taxi rank on Venmore Street while redevelopment continues around Anfield. The council warned that enforcement action could be taken against drivers who cause an obstruction or fail to cooperate with officers.

Liverpool City Council Licensing said: “Due to ongoing redevelopment around Anfield Stadium, please use the temporary Hackney Carriage rank on Venmore Street.

“Enforcement action may be taken against drivers causing an obstruction or failing to cooperate with officers.”

Private hire drivers have also been warned about the restrictions, with lane closures currently operating around the stadium. Drivers have been told to follow the traffic management measures and ensure vehicles do not obstruct roads while passengers are being dropped off or collected.

The licensing authority told private hire drivers: “Lane closures are currently in place around Anfield Stadium. Please follow traffic management measures and avoid causing obstructions when dropping off or picking up.

“Enforcement action may be taken against drivers who fail to comply.”

The arrangements are particularly relevant during busy periods around Liverpool FC fixtures and other major stadium events, when large numbers of taxis and private hire vehicles can converge on the surrounding streets within a relatively short period.
