A London black cab driver has been commended for his actions after returning a £100,000 Hermès handbag left behind by a passenger.
Terry, the driver, discovered the bag after a fare and immediately recognised its value. With no contact details inside, he began the process of trying to trace the owner.
The owner, Hana Al Hai, was visiting London at the time. According to the viral video, Terry contacted the Dubai Mall Lounge, where Hana was a member, in an effort to find her. The Lounge passed on the message, and Hana was informed her bag was safe.
The next day, Terry returned the handbag to Hana at her hotel in Knightsbridge.
Terry later shared the story on social media. He wrote: “Returning back a £100,000 Hermes bag to a Arab lady after leaving it in my taxi, this is why we are the best taxi in the world.”
He continued: “Just trying to restore the trust of people visiting London after being destroyed by our Mayor and cycle thiefs. We need to promote our great city as the best in the world, plus I’m a huge believer in karma.”
Terry added that he had received attention from visitors from the UAE, who recognised him and requested photos of his cab after seeing the video online.
The Licensed Taxi Drivers’ Association (LTDA) said: “This driver’s actions exemplify why black cabs remain the safest and most reliable form of transport in London.”
