Strike action on the London Underground has begun today, with Transport for London (TfL) warning passengers to expect major disruption across the capital’s transport network.
The RMT union walkout, which runs until Thursday 11 September, is expected to bring little to no service on the Tube between Monday and Thursday. TfL has advised passengers that any services running will be limited, starting later than usual and closing early. Journeys should be completed by 6pm during the strike period.
Today, Sunday 7 September, services will be reduced across the network with early closures in place. TfL has told customers to finish their travel by 6pm.
The Docklands Light Railway (DLR) will also be hit, with no service running on Tuesday 9 and Thursday 11 September. A normal service is planned for the other days, though stations shared with the Underground may still face disruption.
Other TfL modes, including the Elizabeth line, London Overground and London Trams, will continue to operate but are expected to be busier than usual. Some services may not stop at every station due to closures, particularly at the start and end of the day.
Separate strike action will also affect some bus services in west, northwest and southwest London between Friday 12 and Sunday 14 September, as First Bus drivers walk out.
With Tube and DLR services reduced, TfL is encouraging passengers to plan journeys carefully and consider alternatives such as walking or cycling for shorter trips. Roads are expected to be congested as more people turn to cars, taxis and private hire vehicles. Taxis remain a key option for travellers needing reliable point-to-point transport across the city.
TfL’s online strike information pages will provide the latest travel updates throughout the action.
