NALEO and IoL move towards merger to form unified licensing body
Updated: Nov 14
The National Association of Licensing and Enforcement Officers (NALEO) and the Institute of Licensing (IoL) have announced plans to merge, forming a single professional body dedicated to supporting and advancing licensing practitioners across the UK.
Both organisations have expressed strong support for the merger, which aims to streamline operations and strengthen representation for members.
The new combined organisation will offer a simplified membership structure, bringing together the resources and expertise of both NALEO and IoL under one umbrella. This means members will benefit from a single membership subscription and a more cohesive, robust professional body to represent their interests.
According to sources, existing benefits for members will be enhanced. Members can expect improved access to regional meetings, expanded training discounts, and strengthened weekly news updates. The unified body also aims to enhance its influence in consultations with government departments and other key stakeholders, providing a stronger voice on policy matters impacting licensing.
In addition to regular publications and free vacancy advertising, the new structure will offer post-nominal designations for Individual, Fellow, and Companion members, recognising professional achievements within the field.
Training opportunities are also set to expand. The combined body plans to introduce a more comprehensive training programme with new qualifications to support ongoing professional development in licensing.
Final details of the merger are said to be still under discussion, with both NALEO and IoL expected to confirm these arrangements in the coming months. The move is however anticipated to create a more unified and effective support system for licensing practitioners across the UK.
