A new ride-hailing platform called Idle has entered the UK market with a business model aiming to improve conditions for drivers by removing commission fees and simplifying costs.
Idle charges drivers a flat daily subscription of £7, inclusive of VAT, with no added admin charges or complicated fee structures. Unlike many established platforms, Idle does not take a percentage cut from fares.
The company positions itself as a service built around drivers, highlighting the role they play in the transport system. Idle says its approach puts drivers first by offering greater respect and transparency in an industry often criticised for high fees and inconsistent policies.
The platform claims that drivers across other services are subject to large commissions, expensive car rental costs, and app access fees. Idle argues these charges affect not just drivers but passengers too, as the costs are often passed down the chain.
Idle also makes use of artificial intelligence, but emphasises that technology must serve people ethically. It sees AI as a tool to increase earnings and efficiency rather than replacing or exploiting drivers.
The company has stated it will continue to listen to drivers and adapt the platform based on their feedback.
