Ola announces extension to its ride discount scheme for UK emergency services and government staff

Indian based ride-sharing firm, Ola, has announced that its discount ride scheme for NHS staff will be extended throughout the UK during the COVID-19 pandemic until 26 April.

A spokesperson for Ola, said: "As this crisis has gone on, we recognise the need to do more and we are proud to play our part to help those keeping the UK safe moving.

"In addition to our great NHS workers, we recognise the sacrifice being made by those working in government to coordinate the UK’s response, as well as those critical workers who are helping keep our country safe.

"To support their vital work, from today, we are offering discounted Ola rides worth up to £70 per person for NHS, St John’s Ambulance, police and UK Government staff until the 26th of April."

The company confirmed they will continue to review their current policy to ensure essential workers receive support.

Ola has expanded rapidly across the UK since its launch in 2018, operating across 27 local authorities.

Cities including Birmingham, Coventry and Warwick have seen more than double-digit growth in rides in the last quarter, the company has said.

To date, Ola says it has provided around 3 million rides with over 11,000 drivers operating on the platform outside London.
