Police appeal for ‘Christmas elves’ videoing attack which hospitalised taxi driver

Gloucestershire police are seeking assistance from a group of men dressed as ‘Christmas elves’ who may hold crucial evidence to an assault case involving a taxi driver.

The incident, which took place last month in Gloucester, resulted in significant injuries to a taxi driver.

The assault occurred near the taxi rank on Station Road at around 11:35 pm on Saturday 16 December. The victim, a taxi driver in his 50s, suffered facial injuries after being punched in the face by a man. Following the attack, the driver attended hospital for treatment.

A Gloucester man in his 40s has been apprehended on suspicion of assault in connection with the incident. He was subsequently released on bail as police continue their investigations.

A key development in the case arose from the analysis of CCTV footage from the area. Investigators noticed that at least one individual among a group dressed as Christmas elves may have recorded the incident on a mobile phone. The police are now urging this person to come forward with any footage that might aid in their enquiries.

Additionally, the authorities are appealing to any other witnesses who were present at the scene. They are particularly interested in individuals who may have captured the event on their mobile phones or dashcams.
