Police appeal for information after pedestrian exiting taxi critically injured in Motherwell crash

Police are appealing for information following a serious road traffic collision involving a passenger exiting a taxi in Motherwell in the early hours of Saturday 13 December 2025.
The incident occurred at around 1.50am on Burnside Road in Newarthill and involved a grey Skoda Karoq and a male pedestrian. Police said the pedestrian had just exited a taxi moments before the collision took place.
Emergency services attended the scene and the 66-year-old man was taken to University Hospital Wishaw. He was later transferred to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow, where his condition has been described as critical but stable.
The road was attended by specialist officers as part of the investigation, with enquiries ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the crash.
Police Scotland are seeking witnesses after a 66-year-old man was left critically injured following a collision involving a car shortly after he exited a taxi.
Sergeant Ross Allison said officers are keen to speak to anyone who may have witnessed the incident but has not yet come forward. He also urged motorists and residents in the area to review any dash cam or private CCTV footage that could assist police.
Police Scotland confirmed that anyone with information is asked to contact officers via 101, quoting reference 0384 of 13 December 2025.
Sergeant Ross Allison said: “Our enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.
“I am appealing for anyone who witnessed the crash and haven’t already spoken to police to get in touch.
“I would also ask anyone who was in the area and who may have dash cam or private CCTV which could assist to contact us.”
