Detectives have released CCTV images as part of an investigation into an arson attack involving a taxi and a residential property in Carlisle.

The incident took place shortly before 1am on Tuesday 4 February, when a taxi parked on a driveway at an address on Mardale Road was deliberately set on fire. Police said those responsible also attempted to set fire to the property itself.

No one was injured during the incident, but the fire caused damage to the vehicle and prompted an emergency response in the residential area.

As part of enquiries, Cumbria Police have now issued CCTV images of two men they would like to identify and speak with in connection with the investigation.

Officers are appealing to anyone who recognises the individuals pictured, or who may have witnessed suspicious activity in the area around the time of the incident, to come forward.

Police are also keen to hear from residents or drivers who may have dashcam, doorbell or CCTV footage covering Mardale Road or nearby streets in the early hours of 4 February.

Information can be reported to police online via the Cumbria Police website, quoting log number 6 of 4 February 2026, or by calling 101.

Alternatively, members of the public can provide information anonymously through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

The investigation remains ongoing.
