Hampshire Constabulary is appealing for witnesses after a taxi driver was allegedly assaulted by a passenger who refused to pay their fare in the early hours of 4 January.

Police said officers were called just before 12.30am to reports of an altercation on Holcroft Road in Southampton. The incident is being treated as an assault following a dispute over payment at the end of a taxi journey.

According to Hampshire Constabulary, it is alleged that the driver was struck in the face by a passenger after they refused to pay the fare. The driver was not seriously injured but was left shaken by the incident.

Officers said enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances and to identify the passenger involved. No arrests have been made at this stage.

Police are reviewing the incident and are seeking to trace the individual responsible. Investigators are also considering whether there were any witnesses in the area at the time or if CCTV or dashcam footage may assist.

The force is urging anyone who saw the incident, or who has information that could help the investigation, to come forward. Members of the public are asked to contact police via 101.
