Police officers were forced to seize a taxi from a ‘poor guy’ who purchased a black cab with outstanding finance and which had been reported stolen.

Reluctant officers from Merseyside Policing Unit holed over the Peugeot Expert black cab after the finance company reported the vehicle as stolen.

Police officers warned other motorists to always check whether the HPI on second hand vehicles is clear.

A Merseyside Policing Unit spokesperson said: “Always ensure a vehicle you buy is HPI clear.

“This poor guy didn’t and had unwittingly purchased a vehicle with outstanding finance on it that has since been reported stolen by the finance company. We have no choice but to seize the vehicle from the new keeper.”
