Sherbet London: Taxi access vital for safe ‘green standard’ economic recovery in London
Black taxi firm Sherbet London are aiming to set the business travel ‘green standard’ for London’s economic recovery.
With public transport restricted, the lockdown may have made travel increasingly difficult, but that has not stopped a number of London firms from making sustainable travel choices for their essential journeys.
Operating across the capital, the all-electric taxi fleet Sherbet London has continued to lead the way in sustainable business travel, transporting clients from home to work in safety and comfort, secure in the knowledge they are supporting a cleaner London. With the all-electric TXE emitting less than one-seventh of the CO2 an older diesel TX4 vehicle does, one company using Sherbet’s services has saved over 800kg of CO2 since lockdown began, across just 127 journeys.
As London emerges from lockdown, Sherbet is at the forefront of supporting the economic recovery at the heart of the capital as businesses look to get moving safely. This, however, is only possible if green vehicles like Sherbet’s fleet have access to central London roads.
While Sherbet fully supports policies that improve London’s air quality, removing the access that ZEC taxis currently have on all of London’s main roads risks the damaging of businesses prospects and an increase in the use of public transport in one fell swoop. It is vital that London’s cleanest taxis retain access to the capital’s arteries if the heart of the city is to keep moving, and the Streetspace for London plans must reflect this.
Asher Moses, CEO of Sherbet London, said: “At Sherbet London we are proud to play our part in getting London moving again and decarbonising our city’s streets. With a fleet of almost 200 zero-emissions vehicles we have the capacity to support London’s businesses to bounce back in a sustainable way, but the closure of roads to clean and green vehicles is putting our ability to do this at risk.
“We are doing everything we can to ensure London can recover in a sustainable manner, but this must be supported by policy decisions that allow us to do what we do best.”
David Morris, Partner at Blandford Capital, said: “Sherbet Electric Taxis have been nothing but positive with the ease of bookings, communications, drivers, punctuality and cleanliness of the cabs, and I have been able to operate with the reassurance that my colleagues are travelling across the city in a safe environment.”
