A private hire driver has been reported by Greater Manchester Police after stopping in a live lane of the M60 near junction 17.

Officers from the traffic division described the incident as something that continues to catch them off guard despite years of dealing with dangerous driving on the region’s roads.

According to police, the driver halted their vehicle in the live lane of the busy motorway before crossing over solid white lines to leave the junction. After a short pause, they changed their mind and steered back onto the main carriageway.

The driver was issued with a Traffic Offence Report (TOR) for driving without due care and attention. Police use such reports to deal with offences that fall below the threshold for immediate prosecution but still carry potential penalties, including fines and points on a licence.

Traffic units continue to run targeted operations aimed at improving driving standards across the region’s road network.

A Greater Manchester Police Traffic spokesperson said: “Sometimes people do things that still surprise us... The driver of this private hire car stopped in the live lane of the M60 near junction 17 then crossed the solid white lines before then changing his mind and going back across to the main carriageway. TOR issued for due care”
