Speeding private hire driver completely oblivious to marked police vehicle following behind

A private hire driver has been caught speeding on the northbound carriageway of the M6 by North West Motorway Police, who followed behind the oblivious driver in their marked police car.

The driver was eventually pulled over after reaching speeds of almost 85mph, where he was issued a ticket and reported for the offence.

Taking to social media to highlight to the public the dangers of speeding and remind them of their responsibilities as road users, NW Motorway Police, wrote: "Marked police vehicle follow this private hire taxi on northbound carriageway of M6 approaching junction 23. Vehicle paced and found to be travelling at average speed of 84.96mph. Driver reported, #TX44 #FATALFIVE #NOTWORTHTHERISK."

This driver is now likely to face points on his DVLA licence, along with a fine.

There's also a good chance his private hire licensing authority will call him in for a licensing hearing, where they will decide if he is still considered a fit and proper person to hold a PHV licence.
