A licensed private hire vehicle has been seized by police in Accrington following the arrest of two occupants on suspicion of supplying controlled drugs.
The stop was carried out on Saturday 31 January on Brown Street by officers from the Hyndburn Police Task Force, operating under Lancashire Police. Police said the vehicle was observed driving in a manner that ‘raised suspicion’ during an afternoon patrol.
Officers stopped the vehicle and arrested a 22-year-old male driver and a 21-year-old male passenger. A quantity of drugs believed to be cocaine was recovered from inside the vehicle, according to police.
The private hire vehicle was subsequently seized under Section 19 of the Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984, which allows officers to remove property suspected of being used in the commission of a crime.
Police say the vehicle was stopped during a task force patrol and seized after suspected cocaine was recovered
In a statement, a Hyndburn Police Task Force spokesperson said the action was intended to reassure residents that information provided by the public is acted upon.
Police encouraged members of the public to report suspected drug activity through Lancashire Police on 101, via email to the Hyndburn Task Force, or anonymously through Crimestoppers.
