Sussex taxi driver who ‘braked too hard’ spilling chips calls 999 after passenger refuses to pay

A Sussex taxi driver called 999 for police assistance after a passenger refused to pay the fare because of spilt chips.

According to police sources, the emergency call was made at 2.30am 19 June after the taxi driver struggled to receive payment for his services.

The passenger refused to pay for the cab because the driver had ‘braked too hard’ leaving the passenger covered in chips.

Inspector Darren Taylor, Mid Sussex Neighbourhood Policing Inspector, said via social media: “Team received a 999 call from a taxi driver at 2.30am due to their passenger refusing to pay the fare.

“It turned out it was because the taxi driver had braked too hard earlier and the passenger had spilt all their chips over themselves.

“Gather it all got salted out in the end.”
