Avon and Somerset Police’s dedicated taxi officer, PC Patrick Quinton, has reported a busy evening shift involving multiple road traffic collisions and vehicle enforcement checks.
PC Quinton, known locally as the ‘Taxi Cop’, was managing closures on Church Road and Kingsland Road after two separate incidents, one of which was described as serious. Despite the closures, he carried out checks on licensed vehicles.
Two drivers were issued with non-compliance notices for badge-related issues. One driver was found to have no badges with him at all. That case has now been passed to the local council for further action.
Earlier in the evening, PC Quinton lifted a suspension on a private hire vehicle which had previously been taken off the road due to a bald tyre. The issue had been identified the previous day and was resolved before the vehicle returned to service.
Later in the shift, PC Quinton attended a road rage incident at Newfoundland Circus. During the investigation, he seized two electric bikes. One of the bikes had been modified so its throttle could propel it at full speed, breaching UK regulations. The other bike, ridden by a delivery driver, was involved in a collision with a private hire vehicle. That bike was also seized.
The delivery rider is currently in hospital. Once discharged, he is expected to face charges including driving without insurance, driving without a licence, and driving without due care and attention.
