Nottinghamshire Police have issued a public appeal after a taxi driver was assaulted and his vehicle damaged during an incident near the Motorpoint Arena in Nottingham.
The attack took place shortly after 11.30pm on Saturday 13 December 2025 on Lower Parliament Street, close to the busy city centre junction opposite the arena. The driver, a man in his 50s, had been waiting at a red traffic light when the incident began.
Police said that as the lights changed, a man walked directly in front of the taxi. When the driver challenged his behaviour, the man struck the front windscreen with force, causing the left-hand side of the glass to shatter.
The driver then exited his vehicle and was subsequently assaulted. Officers said the suspect punched the driver twice in the shoulder area before leaving the scene. The driver did not require hospital treatment, but the incident left him shaken and caused significant damage to the vehicle.

Nottinghamshire Police confirmed that officers have carried out several lines of enquiry since the incident, including reviewing CCTV footage from the area. However, no arrests have been made to date.
As part of the investigation, police have now released images of a man they believe could assist with identifying the person responsible. Officers are urging anyone who recognises the individual or who witnessed the incident to come forward.
Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101, quoting incident number 0723 of 13 December 2025. Alternatively, information can be passed anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
PC Matthew Fisher, who is investigating the incident, said: "The taxi driver was just carrying out his duties when he was subjected to this aggressive and thuggish attack.
"Not only would this incident have caused financial hardship for the victim due to his vehicle being smashed but he was also left with pain and discomfort due to the punches he received.
"This behaviour is completely unacceptable, and we are determined to find the person responsible.

"We have released images of a man that could help us with our inquiries and are calling on the public’s help to identify him.
"Do you know the man in the image? Are you the man in the image? Please get in touch with us as soon as possible."
