Police in Gloucester are appealing for witnesses after a taxi driver was assaulted by a passenger near Wall’s Roundabout on Barnwood Road.
The incident occurred at around 9.35pm on Monday 19 May. It was reported that a passenger in a black Skoda Fabia began arguing with the driver before physically attacking him. The man allegedly grabbed the driver around the neck and punched him.
The driver managed to stop the vehicle and flag down a passing motorist for assistance.
As the assault unfolded, the taxi’s horn was heard sounding repeatedly. The vehicle came to a halt just metres from the nearby traffic lights.
Officers are asking anyone who witnessed the events or who may have relevant dashcam footage to get in touch. They are particularly interested in speaking to the driver and any passengers in a white Citroen DS3 seen entering the roundabout at the time, and the occupants of a black Dacia Sandero waiting at the lights.
A 62-year-old man from Gloucester has been arrested on suspicion of racially aggravated common assault and non-fatal strangulation. He has been released on bail pending further enquiries.
Those with information are urged to contact Gloucestershire Police through the force’s website, quoting incident 508 of 19 May.
