Taxi driver killed and two fighting for their lives following North Wales crash

Perry Richardson

A taxi driver has died and two other people are seriously injured following a road traffic collision near Dolgellau, North Wales, earlier today.

Police were called at 8.20am to a report of a two vehicle collision on the A494 between Rhydymain and Dolgellau involving a blue-coloured Skoda taxi and a white-coloured Peugeot van.

The emergency services were called to the scene including the Air Ambulance.

Sadly, the male driver of the taxi was pronounced dead at the scene.

The female passenger from the taxi, and the male driver of the van, have both been airlifted to hospital in Stoke. Both are said to have life threatening injuries.

Sergeant Jason Diamond of the Roads Policing Unit is appealing for witnesses. He said: “Our thoughts are very much with the man’s family as they try to come to terms with what has happened, and it is very important that we establish what led to this tragic incident.

“We are appealing for witnesses, and are particularly keen on speaking to the driver of a dark blue BMW estate, that was travelling on the A494 towards the Bala area shortly before the collision.

“We also urge anybody who may have bene in the area and who has dash cam footage to please get in touch.”

Police are urging anybody who may have witnessed the collision, or who may have been travelling along the A494 and who has dashcam footage, to contact officers at the North Wales Police Roads Policing Unit via the live web chat on the website or by calling 101, quoting incident number Z062415.
