Taxi driver left ‘extremely shaken’ after assault and robbery in Cumbernauld



Police Scotland has launched an appeal for information after a taxi driver was assaulted and subjected to an attempted robbery in Cumbernauld.


The incident occurred at approximately 12:30am on Sunday, 29 October 2023, leaving the driver ‘extremely shaken’.

The terrifying ordeal unfolded when the taxi driver was parked at the bus stop on Blackthorn Road at Rowan Road. As the late-night hour loomed, a man brazenly approached the unsuspecting driver and swiftly launched an unprovoked assault. He then demanded the driver hand over his hard-earned money.


The assailant is described as wearing a blue/black jacket and a disposable face mask, while being spotted carrying a white carrier bag. Police are urgently appealing to anyone who may have been in the vicinity at the time and witnessed the incident or possesses relevant dash-cam footage.

Detective Sergeant Karen Murray said: “While the taxi driver was not seriously injured he was left extremely shaken by this incident.

“Our enquiries are ongoing and we are keen to trace this man.


“He is described as wearing a blue/black jacket and a disposable face mask. He was carrying a white carrier bag.


“I would ask anyone who was in the area around this time and recognises this description of the man, or perhaps has relevant dash-cam footage which could assist us, to get in touch.”
