Taxi driver's car stolen in violent knifepoint late-night incident in Glasgow
Detectives in Glasgow are seeking information following a robbery in which a ‘taxi driver’ was forced to hand over his vehicle at knifepoint. The incident occurred in the Easterhouse area on Thursday evening, 22 August.
At approximately 11.35pm, police describe a ‘blue Skoda taxi’ being hailed by two men in Langbar Crescent, close to Edinburgh Road. Upon stopping, the driver was threatened with a knife by one of the men. The assailants then fled the scene in the stolen vehicle.
The Skoda was later found abandoned after crashing into a tree on St Lukes Avenue in Carluke. Just hours later, a second vehicle, a black Mercedes EQB, was reported stolen from outside a property on Lanark Road, Carluke. This vehicle was also discovered abandoned, this time on Hallhill Road in Barlanark, Glasgow.
Detectives believe the two incidents are connected and are appealing to the public for any information that may assist their investigation.
Detective Sergeant Scott McNulty said: “Enquiries are at an early stage to establish the full circumstances surrounding this robbery and we are appealing for any potential witnesses to get in touch.
“From CCTV it is understood that a number of people were waiting at a bus stop on Edinburgh Road at the time of the incident and we would like to speak to anyone who may have seen what happened.
“We would also urge anyone who may have seen a blue Skoda taxi or a black Mercedes EQB being driven erratically in the Carluke area in the early hours of Friday morning, or who may have dash-cam footage of significance, to please come forward.”
