A taxi driver is fighting for his life in hospital after a tragic accident involving an escaped horse early yesterday morning.

The incident occurred at approximately 4:12am Friday 18 August on the westbound carriageway of the A602, leaving the driver with life-threatening injuries and the passenger with severe but non-life-changing injuries.

Tragically, due to the severity of its injuries, the escaped horse had to be euthanised at the scene by a veterinarian in order to prevent further suffering.

The authorities have launched an investigation into the incident and are urgently appealing for witnesses to come forward. They are particularly interested in obtaining any dashcam footage that may shed light on the events leading up to the collision. Any information provided could be vital in determining the circumstances surrounding this unfortunate occurrence.

Sergeant Dan Newton, from the Road Policing Unit, said: "Our enquiries are continuing, and we are appealing for anyone with information to please come forward.

"If you were travelling in the area at the time and had a dash-cam fitted, please check it as you may have some crucial information to assist our enquiries.

"I would also like to thank the public’s patience as the road remained closed for several hours while our officers carried out crucial work at the scene."
