Police appeal for taxi driver after allegedly pulling passenger out of cab following late-night south coast fare dispute

Officers are seeking to identify a man following a reported assault involving a taxi driver after a late-night journey from Bournemouth to Christchurch.
According to Dorset Police, the incident was reported to have taken place at around 1.55am on Saturday 15 November 2025. A man in his 20s is said to have entered a taxi at a rank on Old Christchurch Road in Bournemouth before travelling to Marlow Drive in Christchurch.
Police said that after the vehicle stopped at the destination, a verbal dispute took place between the passenger and the driver. The driver allegedly pulled the passenger from the vehicle and assaulted him, causing facial injuries, before leaving the scene.
An image of a man officers would like to identify has now been released as part of the investigation. Police believe the individual may have information that could assist enquiries.

The case raises renewed focus on late-night taxi operations and driver conduct, particularly around rank work and passenger disputes, which remain a recurring area of concern for local authorities and operators.

Police Constable Susie Justice, of Dorset Police, said: “We have been conducting enquiries into this assault, including speaking with local taxi companies, and are now in a position to share an image of a man we would like to identify as part of our investigation.
“I appreciate it is not the best quality image, but I would urge anyone with information relating to this man’s identity to please make contact with us.”
