TaxiPoint launches new National Taxi and Private Hire Survey to measure driver confidence in licensing authorities

TaxiPoint has launched a national survey inviting licensed taxi and private hire vehicle (PHV) drivers to share their views on the authorities responsible for licensing them. Responses will inform a new annual Industry Intelligence report intended to help drivers, government and licensing authorities assess performance and confidence across the sector.
Drivers will be asked which authority they are licensed with and how long they have held a taxi or PHV licence. The questions also cover satisfaction with licensing fees, enforcement in their area, the most recent application or renewal process, and how easy it is to contact their authority.
The survey asks how often drivers see enforcement officers working in their area and what single change to licensing policy would have a positive effect on their job. These questions are intended to capture both day-to-day experiences and drivers’ priorities for policy changes.
Other questions focus on taxi fares and vehicle policy. Drivers are asked whether they are satisfied with their taxi tariff, what changes they would make and whether licensed vehicles should have an age limit.
The questionnaire also asks whether removing VAT from new wheelchair accessible vehicles (WAVs) would make drivers more likely to buy one. It asks how drivers expect licensing to change if responsibility moved from their council to a larger regional transport authority.
The final questions measure drivers’ overall confidence in their licensing authority and whether that confidence has risen, fallen or remained the same over the past two years. Repeating the survey annually is intended to track how views change over time.
The survey takes about two minutes to complete and individual data will be kept secure and will not be shared. It plans to produce an impartial professional report and make it available to industry stakeholders, allowing authorities’ performance to be benchmarked.
TaxiPoint is the taxi industry’s most-read and trusted industry news source with more than 200,000 regular return readers in 2025. The survey’s results will provide a driver-led source of evidence for industry stakeholders.
