The Metropolitan's Road and Transport Policing Team have caught an illegal "taxi tout" breaking the law in the capital's Victoria area.

Plain clothes officers caught the offender on 11 December, and to their astonishment realised they had previously caught the same person committing the same offence in the past.

Highlighting the incident on their official Twitter account, a spokesperson for the Roads and Transport Team said: "CabsUnit are out again tonight in Westminster. Caught one completely illegal taxi tout out at Victoria.

"They were surprised to recognise the same plain clothes officer that caught them last time!

"Remember, stay safe, hail a black taxi or book a minicab via an app or office."

Only licensed hackney carriage drivers can be hailed for hire without being pre-booked. All private hire vehicles must be booked in advanced through a licensed operator.
