TRAGIC COLLISION: Names released of four dead after early-morning collision in Bolton involving taxi

Greater Manchester Police have confirmed the identities of four men who died following a serious collision involving a taxi on Wigan Road in Bolton in the early hours of Sunday 11 January 2025.
Officers were called to the incident at around 12.45am after a red Seat Leon collided with a Citroen C4 Picasso operating as a taxi. Emergency services attended the scene, but four men were pronounced dead as a result of the collision.
Those who died have been formally identified. Masrob Ali, aged 54, who worked as a taxi driver sadly lost his life. Mohammed Jibrael Mukhtar, aged 18, Farhan Patel, aged 18, and Mohammed Danyaal, aged 19, were travelling in the Seat Leon. Police said their families are being supported by specially trained officers.
Five other passengers from the two vehicles remain in hospital receiving treatment. Police said a 29 year old woman travelling in the Citroen suffered potentially life threatening injuries, while a 28 year old woman and a 30 year old man sustained serious injuries. A 29 year old man suffered minor injuries.

An 18 year old man who was a passenger in the Seat Leon also remains in hospital with injuries described by police as minor.
The collision has been referred to the force’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, which is continuing enquiries to establish the full circumstances leading up to the crash. Wigan Road was closed for several hours while forensic work took place at the scene.
Anyone with information relating to the collision is urged to contact police directly as the investigation remains ongoing.
Detective Inspector Andrew Page, of the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “We are still in the early stages of our investigation and work is ongoing to establish the full circumstances of this terrible incident.
“As an investigation team we would encourage people to be mindful of sharing footage on social media given the impact this will have on all the families involved in such a tragic incident. Sharing such footage could constitute a criminal offence.
“Thanks to patrols in the area, teams were able to get to the incident location quickly to what was a particularly challenging scene for colleagues in the emergency services. I want to thank first responders from our Bolton district and the Road Policing Unit, alongside colleagues from Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service and the North West Ambulance Service for their hard work since this incident.
