TRAGIC: Taxi driver dies at scene following Harrogate collision

Police are appealing for witnesses following a fatal collision which killed the driver of a taxi near Harrogate.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday 18 June 2023 at around 01:20am on the A61 Harrogate Road at Dunkeswick and involved a grey BMW and a black Peugeot taxi.

Tragically, the driver of the taxi, a man in his 40s, died at the scene. His family has been informed and is currently receiving support from specially trained officers. The driver of the BMW, a man in his 20s, remains hospitalised.


The stretch of road was closed until 3.20pm on Sunday afternoon to allow officers to investigate the scene. Police are now appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the collision or has any dashcam footage of either vehicle prior to the incident to come forward.

In a statement North Yorkshire Police are appealing to anyone who may have seen the collision or who may have any dashcam footage of the collision or the vehicles prior to the incident, to come forward.

Anyone with information or footage is urged to preserve the footage and contact 101, select option 2 and ask for Steve Hawkins.
