Two Birmingham drivers handed heavy fines after illegally plying for hire

Two drivers have been handed heavy fines after being found guilty of illegally plying for hire in Birmingham.

The two drivers were at court this week after the claims brought forward by Birmingham City Council.

One driver found guilty was fined with costs totalling £1,030 with an additional 8 points placed on to his driving licence.

A second driver was given a combined fine with costs of £233 and 6 penalty points placed on to his driving licence.

This comes following an earlier clampdown on illegal cars plying for hire in Birmingham.

A joint operation a month ago on 11 October saw 43 vehicle checks and 3 cars caught for plying for hire.

The operation included the involvement of the West Midlands Police Private Hire and Taxi Enforcement Officer, Birmingham City Council Licensing and DVSA Enforcement.
