Uber has acquired Denmark’s largest taxi firm, Dantaxi, in a deal with private equity group Triton. The move brings more than 3,500 professional drivers under Uber’s platform across 75 of Denmark’s 98 municipalities.
The acquisition follows Uber’s launch in Copenhagen earlier this year. It marks a shift in the company’s Danish operations, expanding its presence beyond the capital to serve both urban and smaller communities across the country.
Dantaxi, which Triton acquired in 2018, currently has around 1,900 connected vehicles and national reach. It will continue to operate its local taxi services but will now integrate its driver network into Uber’s app. Drivers will maintain their existing arrangements while gaining access to Uber’s dispatch tools, passenger demand, and safety technology.
Passengers will be able to book rides using the Uber app and access features such as fare estimates, driver tracking and in-app emergency support. All trips will be priced according to Denmark’s regulated taxi rates.
Uber stated that the acquisition will help increase the number of electric vehicles in its Danish network and reduce private car use.
Maurits Schönfeld, General Manager Northern Europe at Uber, said: “This acquisition marks a major investment in the future of Danish mobility. By combining Uber’s world-class technology with Dantaxi’s trusted local taxi service, we aim to make everyday travel more accessible, sustainable, and convenient across Denmark. With over 3500 drivers and operations in 75 out of 98 municipalities , this deal will create the most widely available mobility platform in the country.”
Carsten Aastrup, CEO of Dantaxi, said: “Joining forces with Uber opens up an exciting new chapter for Dantaxi. We share a common vision for providing sustainable, high-quality transport and together we can deliver an even better experience for riders and greater opportunities for drivers across Denmark. We thank Triton for all their support and are excited about the journey ahead. We remain committed to operating our much needed local taxi services, supporting our drivers and staying true to our Danish roots.”
