Thames Valley Police have issued a warning to taxi and private hire drivers after two individuals were found abandoned on a motorway following a night out.
The Roads Policing Unit took to social media to raise concerns about drivers leaving passengers in dangerous locations. Officers found two people standing on the hard shoulder of a dark motorway after reportedly being ‘dumped’ off by their Uber driver. It is believed the passengers were sick during the ride, prompting the driver to remove them from the vehicle.
In the shared image, a police officer is seen standing with the two individuals against a motorway barrier. No further details have been released on whether the driver has been traced.
Private hire drivers, including those working via ride-hailing apps, have been urged to act responsibly and avoid putting lives at risk.
A Thames Valley Police Roads spokesperson said: “Just a polite message to taxi (Uber!!) drivers - If your intoxicated fare ends up being sick in the back of your vehicle, after a Saturday night in town, please don't dump them on the side of the dark motorway! Thanks.”
