Uber has launched a winter service aimed at skiers and snowboarders travelling to major resorts across the US, France, Switzerland and soon Canada. Uber Ski offers larger vehicles that take up to four passengers with their equipment, running from now until the end of March.
The service forms part of Uber Reserve, allowing bookings up to 90 days ahead. The company says the advance option is intended to give travellers certainty during the busy winter season.
Uber has also agreed a new link-up with Vail Resorts. Riders reserving an Uber Ski can now buy their Epic Pass or Epic Day Pass directly in the Uber app. The integration brings transport and lift access into one booking process.
Adib Roumani, Director of Engineering at Uber, said the service aims to give riders a straightforward route to the slopes. Travellers can choose between an UberXL for two people with equipment or an UberXXL for four, depending on group size and gear.
Roumani said: “We are thrilled to offer skiers and snowboarders alike a convenient and reliable way to get to the mountain this season.
“And, thanks to our new partnership with Epic Pass, everything you need for a great time on the slopes can be reserved with just a few taps in the Uber app. With Uber Ski, you can spend more time enjoying the fresh mountain air and less time worrying about how to get there.”
Epic Pass products provide access to leading resorts including Vail Mountain, Breckenridge, Park City and Stowe, along with Whistler Blackcomb and Crans Montana. The passes include savings on food, accommodation, lessons and rentals. Epic Pass sales end in December, after which riders can still book standard lift tickets through the Uber Ski option.
Uber says the combined service simplifies planning by bringing transport and lift access under one platform.
