Uber has introduced new features aimed at making its ride-hailing service more accessible for older adults. The company has launched ‘senior accounts’ and ‘Simple mode’ to provide a streamlined experience for users who may find the standard app interface challenging.
Senior accounts are integrated into Uber’s Family Profile feature. This allows family members to assist older relatives by setting up their accounts, managing payment methods, and monitoring trips in real-time.
The app interface for senior accounts includes larger text, fewer buttons, and simplified navigation to facilitate ease of use. Users can also save frequently visited destinations, such as home or medical offices, for quick access. Payment options are flexible, including the use of personal cards, family members’ payment methods, or eligible Medicare Flex cards.
For older adults who prefer to manage their rides independently, Uber has introduced Simple mode. This feature offers the same simplified interface as senior accounts but does not require a connection to a Family Profile. Users can activate Simple mode through the app’s Account section, enabling them to navigate the service with greater ease while maintaining full control over their accounts.
These features are now available across the United States and have been launched in select international markets, including Taiwan, Hong Kong, India (Simple mode only), Brazil, Mexico, Chile, Portugal, France, and South Africa.
Uber developed these features in collaboration with accessibility experts and input from older adults to ensure the service meets the specific needs of this demographic. The initiative aims to address transportation barriers that can impact the independence of seniors, providing them with a reliable and user-friendly means of mobility.
