Uber’s Local Cab option EXPANDS further in Greater Manchester

Uber has extended its Local Cab product further across Greater Manchester, enabling passengers to book a trip with an additional local operator — Metro Taxis in Stockport — via the Uber app.

Anyone opening the Uber app in Greater Manchester can select the Local Cab option, alongside regular Uber-operated options UberX and UberXL. Local Cab trips are passed to local operators to fulfil, and all subsequent customer support is provided by them.

This further extension of Local Cab in Greater Manchester with Metro Taxis follows a previous wave of launches, featuring operators such as Lynx Taxis in Stockport, Intime Taxis in Levenshulme and Z Cars in Oldham, which took place earlier in the year.

Since the company’s pilot of Local Cab last year, the product has launched in over 50 locations across the UK.

Mumtaz Choudhry, General Manager at Metro Taxis, said: “We look forward to making Local Cab available to more people across Greater Manchester. We feel that now, more than ever, a product like Local Cab is needed – with demand for taxis continuing to rise and passengers in need of more options.

“The partnership with Uber is also enabling us to provide further job opportunities to our drivers and we hope it will attract new recruits to join our fleet.”

Andrew Brem, General Manager at Uber UK, said: “Manchester is one of a growing number of towns and cities in England where riders can access both UberX and Local Cab in the same app. This will help maximise earnings opportunities for drivers while giving passengers in Manchester more choice, meaning that everyone will benefit. We’re looking forward to extending Local Cab in more UK towns and cities soon."
