Warwickshire County Council reports £27.6m in taxi and private hire transport contract awards

Warwickshire County Council has reported taxi and private hire passenger transport contract awards worth £27.65 million in its latest quarterly procurement notice.
The notice, published on Monday 26 October, covers individual transport routes awarded through the authority’s Dynamic Purchasing System (DPS) during Q2 2026.
The reported total compares with £8.36 million for Q1 2026, representing an increase of approximately £19.29 million. The equivalent Q2 2025 notice recorded £23.21 million in awards, around 19% below the latest reported figure.
Warwickshire’s purchasing system allows approved taxi and private hire operators to compete for home-to-school transport routes as contracts become available.
Vehicles must have no more than eight passenger seats. Operators must also meet staff training requirements, while passenger assistants may be required on certain routes.
The council’s original procurement arrangements require businesses to complete satisfactory due diligence checks before being admitted to the supplier system.
Once accepted, operators can compete for individual routes through electronic auctions or mini-competitions. Businesses are not required to bid for every opportunity.
The latest notice identifies multiple suppliers collectively but does not name individual businesses in its summary. The £27.65 million represents the aggregate contract value stated in the quarterly notice rather than the council’s spending during those three months.
The purchasing system remains open to new entrants, allowing qualifying taxi and private hire businesses to apply for future transport opportunities.
