In a joint effort to ensure the safety of passengers, West Midlands Police worked closely with Birmingham and Wolverhampton Councils over the weekend to enforce regulations for private hire vehicles (PHV).

Their operations resulted in a significant number of inspections, uncovering both compliance and non-compliance among drivers.

A spokesperson for West Midlands Police Traffic expressed their satisfaction with the overall compliance rate after checking 60 PHVs.

However, during the inspections, the police did discover eight offences committed by private hire drivers. The spokesperson emphasized that these offences would be dealt with accordingly.

A West Midlands Police Traffic spokesperson said: “This weekend we worked with Birmingham and Wolverhampton Councils on private hire enforcement to make sure they are safe for passengers.

“We stopped 60 with most being compliant, but we also found 8 offences which will be dealt with. Such high compliance is great to see!”
