Taxi licensing officers from City of Wolverhampton Council carried out enforcement checks in Dudley on Tuesday as part of a joint operation with West Midlands Police and Dudley Metropolitan Borough Council.
The operation involved roadside vehicle inspections, with licensed taxis stopped and checked for compliance with licensing and road safety requirements. The activity was confirmed in a social media update published by Wolverhampton Council’s Public Protection team on 28 January.
The council highlighted its taxi licensing officers work outside the authority’s own area alongside partner agencies, reflecting the continued use of cross-border enforcement to monitor licensed vehicles working across the West Midlands.
Such operations typically focus on vehicle condition, licensing documentation, insurance and driver compliance, particularly where vehicles licensed by one authority are operating extensively in neighbouring council areas.

Cross-border working has become more common in recent years as local authorities respond to concerns around standards, enforcement capacity and the growth of out-of-area licensed private hire vehicles.
Neither Wolverhampton Council nor Dudley Council released figures on the number of vehicles stopped or any enforcement outcomes from the operation.
