Uber drivers across the UK are being urged to sign up to a legal campaign seeking to gather 100,000 signatures in support of a challenge to the company’s dynamic pay model.

The driver called the Dynamic Pay Claim is being coordinated by the Worker Info Exchange in collaboration with the App Drivers and Couriers Union, with organisers describing the six-figure target as central to strengthening the alleged case against Uber.

James Farrar of Worker Info Exchange (WIE) called for every Uber driver in the UK to add their name to the campaign, describing the sign-up process as free and straightforward. He said the case, if sure , could result in financial compensation for drivers and damages linked to emotional distress and anxiety. However, he stressed that the primary objective is to bring an end to dynamic pay arrangements.

Campaign organisers say reaching 100,000 signatures would demonstrate the scale of opposition among drivers and increase pressure on Uber. The App Drivers and Couriers Union (ADCU) has formally backed the initiative and is encouraging its members to participate.

Worker groups aim to build six-figure backing for claim targeting Uber’s upfront pricing and variable commission model

According to the organisers, the legal challenge centres on Uber’s introduction of its “Upfront Pricing” model from 2020 onwards in the Netherlands, the UK and other European markets. Under the model, the previous system of calculating driver pay based on time and distance was replaced with fares fixed in advance by Uber for each trip.

Campaigners argue that the pricing and shift to variable commission structure shifted commercial risk onto drivers, while allowing Uber to increase what they describe as hidden commission levels.

Uber has previously maintained that upfront pricing provides greater certainty for both riders and drivers before a trip is accepted. The company has also argued that flexible commission rates enable it to respond to market conditions and provide more work to drivers.

James Farrar at Worker Info Exchange (WIE) said: “Every Uber driver across the UK needs to add their name to this campaign. Signing up is completely free and safe, only takes a few seconds, and could have major consequences for drivers across all of Europe.

“If successful, this case could deliver financial compensation for drivers, compensation for the emotional distress and anxiety caused by Uber’s conduct, and—most importantly—an end to dynamic pay, which is the core aim of the campaign.

“We are working to secure 100,000 driver signatures from across the UK. ADCU is urging all its members to sign, and is fully behind the campaign.

“Every driver’s support strengthens the case, puts greater pressure on Uber, and brings us closer to achieving fair and transparent pay for all.“
