Autonomous vehicle company Zoox and ride-hailing giant Uber have announced a strategic partnership that will see Zoox’s purpose-built robotaxis deployed on the Uber platform, starting in Las Vegas this summer and expanding to Los Angeles by mid-2027.
Under the agreement, riders using the Uber app will have the opportunity to be matched with a Zoox autonomous vehicle on eligible trips. The launch marks the first time Zoox has partnered with a third-party ride-hailing platform to distribute its robotaxi service.
Zoox will continue to offer journeys through the Zoox app alongside the Uber integration, allowing the company to operate both a direct-to-consumer service and a network partnership model in the two cities.
The deployment will begin in Las Vegas, where Zoox has been conducting testing and development work for several years, before expanding operations to Los Angeles in 2027. Uber said the collaboration would give riders access to autonomous journeys through its existing global ride-hailing platform, while Zoox will manage the vehicle fleet and underlying autonomous technology.
Amazon-owned autonomous vehicle developer Zoox will make its purpose-built robotaxis available through the Uber app in a new partnership set to begin in Las Vegas.
Zoox vehicles differ from many other autonomous ride-hailing systems because they are purpose-built rather than retrofitted passenger cars. The company’s robotaxi was designed specifically for ride-hailing services, with a bidirectional layout that removes traditional driver controls and focuses on passenger space.
The move highlights a growing trend of partnerships between ride-hailing platforms and autonomous vehicle developers as companies look to scale robotaxi services through established passenger networks. For Uber, integrating Zoox vehicles could expand autonomous ride availability without developing its own fleet, while Zoox gains immediate access to Uber’s large rider base.
“We are excited to partner with Uber, a company that shares our vision for transforming mobility,” said Aicha Evans, CEO of Zoox. “This partnership is an opportunity to continue advancing the use of autonomous mobility in daily life. Through our collaboration, Zoox will provide a differentiated rider experience to those who already know and love the convenience of riding with Uber."
“The Zoox robotaxi is unlike any other vehicle on the planet – it was purpose-built from the ground up to deliver an extraordinary experience,” said Dara Khosrowshahi, CEO of Uber. “Zoox’s commitment to safety and their advanced autonomous driving technology make them an ideal partner. We’re thrilled to work together to introduce more riders to the future of mobility.”
