Bolton cabbie has licence revoked after rape allegation

Perry Richardson

A cab driver has had his licence revoked in Bolton last week after an allegation of rape was made against him by a passenger.

The unnamed cabbie was questioned by police after a woman made the allegation last September.

The victim, who had been picked up in Farnworth had asked to be taken to hospital. Upon arriving at the destination it is alleged that a sexual assault took place.

The driver denied the rape but did admit to kissing the woman, who was drunk and had health issues.

The woman later withdrew her complaint to the police, but after a meeting of Bolton Council's licensing committee, it was decided that the driver was not a fit and proper person to hold a cab licence and his licence was subsequently revoked.
